Eugene “Freedom” Blackwell Scholarship/Legacy Fund

Field of Interest

Established in 2016 by the family of Eugene “Freedom” Blackwell in memory of his fight for equity throughout our community and a special focus on our youth. The purpose of this fund is to support African American youth in grades k through 12th to pursue opportunities to further their education in STEM and other programs that prepare them for their future. The fund will also support entrepreneurial efforts of African American male youth. These causes were important to Freedom and where he dedicated most of his efforts.

Euzelle “Bubby” Hairston Educational Fund

Field of Interest

Established in 1998 by the Honorable Valerie McDonald Roberts in honor of her father Bubby Hairston. The income from this fund is to be used for educational purposes.

God’s Tithe Fund

Field of Interest

Established in 2013. The purpose of the fund is to support the preaching/proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ and/or activities congruous with that purpose. The donor or a committee will suggest recipients of the grants.

Human Equity and Justice Fund

Field of Interest

Established in 2018 by the Board of Trustees of POISE Foundation, this fund will provide small one time grants up to $5,000 for a grant period up to six months to support organizations and movements that are on the frontline responding to a crisis that impacts Pittsburgh’s Black community. If approved, the grant will be made available within 2 business days to support a rapid response.

Jeannette Carolina Memorial Healthcare Fund

Field of Interest

Established in 2006 by Marvin Carolina. Grants from this fund will be used for individuals pursuing careers in the Healthcare field with an interest in nursing; and other eligible grants to support the growth of African Americans in the Healthcare profession.

Jerry Devon Jones, Sr. Fund

Field of Interest

Established in 2009 by Michelle Lewis in honor of her father, to support programs providing skills in the field of carpentry as well as scholarships to individuals seeking to gain or enhance carpentry skills.

John Christian Golf Classic Endowment Fund

Field of Interest

Established in 1988 by the John Christian Charity Golf Classic Committee. Income is to be used to help provide educational assistance to minority youth at various levels of their academic career and help in promoting self-help and betterment for the total community.

K. Leroy Irvis Memorial Educational Fund

Field of Interest

Established in 2006 by the Board of POISE Foundation to honor the legacy of the Honorable K. Leroy Irvis. This fund is dedicated to supporting educational purposes in keeping with the interest of K. Leroy Irvis such as the K. Leroy Irvis Reading Room, general education purposes, and groups involved in the political education of the African American community.

Margaret Lewis Education for Special Needs Children Fund

Field of Interest

This Fund was established in 2010 by the family and friends of Margaret Lewis in memory of her work and concern for individuals with special needs, particularly children. The income generated from this fund will be used to support educational programs for children with special needs in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County

Marian Parker Diggs Entrepreneurial Fund

Field of Interest

Established in 1997 by the Board of Directors of POISE Foundation in memory and honor of Marian Parker Diggs, a native of Pittsburgh and champion of small business. The income from the fund is to be used for entrepreneurial activities as determined by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
