Estelle Martin Cartledge Memorial Fund

INVESTING IN THE BLACK COMMUNITIES OF TOMORROW

This scholarship was established in 1991 to honor the memory of Estelle Martin Cartledge whose selfless service and constant teachings were an enduring source of strength and inspiration. The Fund will serve young people in Morning Star Baptist Church of West Mifflin, Mon-View Heights and the Mon-Valley community.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants:

  • MUST be a high school graduate with a strong academic record
  • MUST be accepted to or currently enrolled in a 2 or 4 year institution of higher education
  • Should ideally have sustained (1 year or more) involvement in humanitarian service projects. This does not include paid employment but may include church work, community  service projects, and tutoring
  • Preference given to residents of the following Mon Valley communities (Rankin, Turtle Creek, Braddock, North Braddock, Swissvale, Glenn Hazel, Homestead, West Homestead, Duquesne, West Mifflin, Clairton, Monongahela and Whitaker) as well as Morning Star Baptist Church of West Mifflin attendees

African American students are strongly encouraged to apply

POISE grants one to two Estelle Martin Cartledge Memorial scholarships annually. Scholarship amounts can vary between $1000-$2500
